Live from Ragleigh, North Carolina, RAW presents the WWE Draft 2011.

The show opens with a battle royal already underway.

Team SmackDown! Vs. Team RAW – Winning Team Gets First Draft Pick

Standard battle royal stuff, with the commentators putting over how big a threat all the big guys are, even though they always get eliminated. After a while it came down to two a piece, with Mason Ryan and Evan Bourne representing SmackDown! with Big Show and Kofi Kingston repping RAW. Read more…

RAW Reaction 21/03/11(Rewriting Miz-story)

March 25, 2011 Leave a comment

The show opens with the announcer introducing “The Voice of the WWE” Jim Ross. Out comes Michael Cole, predictably, dressed as good ole JR, fat suit, cowboy hat and tissue in his mouth to simulate the bells palsy. It wasn’t very funny and just served to create some cheap heat as Cole stood in front of Jerry Lawler at the announce desk trying to goad a reaction out of him. Cole throws the cowboy hat in Kings face and heads straight for the Cole Mine, his protective perspex box, before Lawler can get him.

Triple H’s music hits and the Pittsburgh crowd pop big. He comes out in his street clothes to cut another promo about his match with The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 27. Read more…

Wrestlemania II Review(30 Days of Mania)

March 20, 2011 1 comment

2014 Update: This is now a part of “30 Days of Mania” – an open ended review series to chronicle every event, originally posted as part of the failed “27 Days of Mania” series. The review, including reference to 27 Days of Mania, will be left untouched.

Wrestlemania 2 promised to be bigger and better than the original. Apparently the way to do this was to split the show into 3 parts, emanating from 3 different arenas around the United States. Did it work? Lets find out. Again, I have never seen this Wrestlemania, nor do I know that much about it. The idea was each arena/portion of the show would have a main event and a small undercard. The three cities were New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. The main event of the Nassau Coliseum portion was a boxing match between Mr. T and Roddy Piper, building on the Wrestlemania I main event and real life animosity between the two. Not just Piper but a lot of the other wrestlers didn’t like Mr. T as he was simply an actor and wasn’t very good at wrestling. I’m sure there’s more to it but a shade of grey is enough for now. The main event coming from the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago was a tag team championship match between the British Bulldogs and the Dream Team, with the Bulldogs looking to capture the gold. The true main event of the whole night took place in the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, and it was the reigning WWF champion Hulk Hogan(who else?) defending the strap against King Kong Bundy in a steel cage match. RAW Reaction 14/03/11(Cena Vs. Del Rio)

March 15, 2011 6 comments

Welcome to the first RAW Reaction, lets get straight to it.

The show cuts straight to The Rock in his home, apparently talking to Barrack Obama(do you smell what Barrack is cooking?) about how bad John Cena’s “Final Knockout” promo was last night. He gets interrupted by Cena’s music and hangs up the phone, talking to Cena off camera. He says it’s Cena’s chance to talk to him like a man. A 10 year old kid decked out in the full Cena garb comes in. The Rock looks at the camera with an eyebrow raise and a scratching record interruptes the music. The kid raps a little, it wasn’t bad. The Rock is being great here, and brings up a chair to talk to “John Cena.” Read more…

Wrestlemania I Review(30 Days of Mania)

2014 Update: This is now a part of “30 Days of Mania” – an open ended review series to chronicle every event, originally posted as part of the failed “27 Days of Mania” series. The review, including reference to 27 Days of Mania, will be left untouched.

I’m gonna start this thing off as I mean to go on, and do something I’ve always wanted to do. I’m going to attempt to review every Wrestlemania, from 1985 to 2011, hopefully before Wrestlemania XVII takes place. It’ll be tough, it’ll be fun, I might give up, I might not, but either way it’s gonna be a challenge, and I’m all for that.

I’ve not actually seen every Wrestlemania, which is an extra incentive, as a fan of over 15 years, to actually say when I’ve done this, that I’ve in fact seen every Wrestlemania. So without further ado, lets start…

Wrestlemania, featuring the stars of Rocky III

What better way to start than at the beginning? Where it all began…for the first time. As I sit down to watch the very first Wrestlemania, a sense of historical importance adds to my anticipation. Wrestlemania took place in(where else) Madison Square Garden, New York City on March 31st 1985, with 19,121 in attendance. Vince McMahon began the Wrestlemania franchise to be the World Wrestling Federation’s equivelant to the already successful Starrcade pay per view event, started by Jim Crockett Promotions back in ’83. At the time Wrestlemania was the largest closed circuit television broadcast in the United States, being viewed by over one million fans. It would go on to define what we now know as “sports entertainment” and is to this day the biggest event in professional wrestling, its legacy likely to live on as the most important event in the history of professional wrestling, period.
